Uluru (Ayers Rock) is Australia's spiritual heart, a massive sandstone monolith that changes colour throughout the day and holds deep significance for the Anangu people.
Getting There
Fly into Ayers Rock Airport (Connellan) from Sydney, Melbourne, or Cairns. The rock is about 20 minutes from the airport and the resort town of Yulara.
Sunrise & Sunset
The most magical moments at Uluru happen at dawn and dusk when the rock transforms through shades of orange, red, and purple. Both the sunrise and sunset viewing areas are well set up with parking and platforms.
Cultural Experiences
- Take a guided base walk with an Anangu guide to learn about Tjukurpa (creation stories) - Visit the Uluru-Kata Tjuta Cultural Centre - Join a dot painting workshop - Attend the Field of Light art installation (if available during your visit)
Kata Tjuta (The Olgas)
Don't miss nearby Kata Tjuta. The Valley of the Winds walk is one of the best hikes in Australia, taking you through dramatic red rock domes.
Important Note
: Climbing Uluru has been permanently closed since October 2019 out of respect for Anangu culture. The base walk and surrounding experiences are far more rewarding anyway.
