Exploring the Daintree Rainforest

The Daintree Rainforest is over 180 million years old, making it the oldest tropical rainforest on Earth. Located in Far North Queensland, it's the only place where two World Heritage sites meet: the rainforest and the Great Barrier Reef.

How to Get There

The Daintree is about 2 hours north of Cairns. You'll cross the Daintree River by cable ferry. There's no bridge, and that's part of the charm.

Top Experiences

- Daintree River Cruise: Spot crocodiles, birds, and snakes on a guided river cruise - Cape Tribulation Beach: Where the rainforest meets the reef, a stunning tropical beach surrounded by jungle - Mossman Gorge: Crystal-clear swimming holes surrounded by ancient rainforest. Take the Dreamtime Walk with local Kuku Yalanji guides - Night Walks: The rainforest comes alive after dark with tree frogs, insects, and nocturnal mammals

Wildlife to Look For

The Daintree is home to some of Australia's most unique wildlife: cassowaries, tree kangaroos, Boyd's forest dragons, and the elusive platypus.

When to Visit

The dry season (May to October) is most comfortable. The wet season (November to April) brings heavier rainfall but also fewer crowds, lusher greenery, and dramatic waterfalls.
