What are Australia's entry requirements in 2026?
Last updated 2026-05-08
Short answer: To enter Australia in 2026 you need a valid passport (6+ months remaining), a visa or ETA matched to your nationality, and a completed Digital Passenger Declaration if requested. COVID vaccination is no longer required. Yellow fever proof is needed only if arriving from a yellow-fever country within 6 days.
Documents at the border: passport, visa/ETA confirmation (digital is fine), return or onward ticket. Customs cards now mostly digital via SmartGate at major airports.
Biosecurity: Australia has the world's strictest biosecurity. Declare all food, plant, animal and outdoor gear (hiking boots, tents). Lying on the form risks AUD $5,500 on-the-spot fines.
